C.A.S.T. for kids

In early May, we had a chance to attend a special event at Lake Bastrop.  It's called C.A.S.T. for kids, which stands for Catch A Special Thrill.  The participants all have some form of limitation and they are paired with volunteer boat captains for a special day of boating and fishing. 

Our boat captain was Steve and he was great!  We also had a helper, a 7th-grade boy that reminded me of my oldest nephew. 

We started off by boarding the boat and zooming across the lake.  The first alcove didn't get us near any fish so we picked up the anchor and headed to another spot.

Going FAST was one of her favorite parts of the day!

It took almost two hours before she caught her first fish:

For some reason, she didn't want to hold it herself!

Shortly thereafter (and with about a minute to go before we had to head back), she caught a much larger bass.

Gorgeous bass!  I almost cried when we had to release it--would have made some nice fillets!

We headed back to the shore and enjoyed lunch by Chili's and HEB, with ice cream sandwiches by Schwann's. 
They also had the plaque-presentation and each kid got a bag filled with goodies (bluebonnet seeds, a blanket, koozies, passes to Morgan's Wonderland, etc.).
