Fairies

Lucy's latest obsession is fairies...lots of them...

She particularly likes Scholastic's Rainbow Magic fairy book series:

She likes to read the chapters with her glasses on, then take her glasses off to make the tiny pictures of fairies "look bigger".  :)

Lucy has also been busy in the back yard, creating "fairy gardens"

The fairies tie in nicely with her other obsession, toads.  Opa brought over toad #3 this week, the same day I found one hiding in the garage.

She reminds me so much of ME when I was almost 7...

At least her glasses are smaller than mine were!  Speaking of glasses, she came home from school in tears one day this week.  They had a substitute and when it came time to do writing, the sub made her put her 20/20 marker away and use a regular pencil.  I had to explain to Lucy that the sub didn't know she can't see #2 pencil very well and that she is allowed to use her special marker.  We have been practicing what to say next time it happens ("I'm visually impaired.  This is my tool").   It was a small reminder of how things are just a little different for Lucy in this big world. 

Lastly, they had 1st grade Economics Fair today.  Each class makes a "good" and "service" to sell for First Grade Cash.  Her class made beach bottles for their good and disco dancing for their service.  One kid said disco dancing is old, like from the 1980's.  *cough*  Feeling old...
