Children's Day Art Park

Wednesday was another BIG day of adventure!  We packed up the car and headed downtown to Symphony Square, where they host the Children's Day Art Park on Wednesdays during the summer.  I remember getting to go once when I was a child and loved it, and I wanted to experience it with Lucy as well. 

Admission is .50 cents a child, with .10 cent cups of lemonade.  We went early and got a great seat in the front.  Before the performance, we checked out the "instrument zoo", where volunteers help kids experience musical instruments.

After the performance, we walked down Waller Creek to the tent area where they had different art areas set up.  They had a page-coloring section, face-painting, balloon animals, giveaways and clay sculpting.  While Lucy was at the clay area, a guy from the Statesman asked if he could take her picture for the newspaper as he was doing an article about the event.  Neat! 

We made it back to the parking area at the Capitol right at the 2-hour-parking-free limit, so the total cost was only .80 cents (admission and 3 lemonades!). 

Next, we drove to the LBJ museum.  Unfortunately, they are renovating and only had a few things on the 10th floor for us to explore.  My camera ran out of battery so all the pics I took with my camcorder turned out dark and blurry, but I did manage a few.

And she thought this statue of LBJ outside, holding his glasses, was pretty cool!

We headed to Shipe pool for a picnic lunch and a swim.  It was HOT!

We headed home for a few hours before I took Lucy, Andy and John to the Express game.  Derek Holland (of the Texas Rangers) was pitching that night.
