Boston, Day 3

Today was our 3rd and final day of Boston STEM2U program.  It also happened to be Super Pi Day!  We were at the Museum of Science when they announced that it was 3/14/15 9:26:53 am--the first 10 digits of Pi

We started the morning with the "engineering challenge", which involved using pipette dishes, fabric, straws, batteries, pipe cleaners, etc. to make a bobsled.  The juniors got to experiment with different fabrics, techniques, etc. to see what would go the fastest/slowest.  Lucy made numerous different combinations which worked but didn't get her the fastest speed.  DH showed her how to reduce surface area on the bottom by attaching straws and her final speed was just above the record fastest.  All 3 of us enjoyed this one!

The rest of the day was spent in separate areas (parents in lectures/meetings, kids in the museum) so there were few opportunities for us to explore the museum with Lucy.  :(  We did get to do the hands-on animal-of-the-day exhibit together, which ended up being a rat snake.  I guess they are less common up in Massachusetts.  :)

I appreciated how they worked hard at making it as accessible as possible
